I think they should have given him until the end of the season. They were supposed to be celebrating his 1000th win tonight. What a hell of a way to celebrate.
I'd imagine that the owners are getting a bit fed up with the terrible team management. $170 Million payroll and for what? Losing, and lots of it. Charlie is the scapegoat for the time being. But what they really need to do is to shed payroll, get younger, and start over.... they have no viable sustainability with the roster they currently have going.
I agree. They need their 08/09 level of talent back. Those were the good old days...
sternumman We can't afford a loss like that. Got to win 2 of 3. My friend got seats right behind yanks toomorow at the trop. She's getting me a autographed Yankee cap she does public relations work with them Next year I'm going to check those seats out , I'm stoked.
They cant win them all. 7/10 aint bad. Thats cool. The only autograph I have is a Mattingly pic some one gave me a few years back. Its sitting in my garage. I wish it was this one.
sternumman before we became friends over there ,( I know you were around but did not post as much ). I predicted yanks to miss playoffs and finish 3 rd in east. And I still may be right ..but with all those blown opportunities against Boston , they are 2 back and if you. Told me in June that a sweep of Tampa later this sept means most likely a wild card , I woulda jumped at that ... Best job giradi gas done and I don't like him . If they get within a game come that series , watch out ,! I will be very happy to be wrong ..,, and the sandman deserves to go out in the playoffs
I thought they were done after the boston series but they are still hanging in. Word is Jeter is officially done for the season. I think they got more out of Soriano than they anticipated and who would have thought arod would be hitting 300 with some power. It would be a shame for Mo to go out without a playoff appearance but I wouldn't be surprised if he retired and came back late next season.

Yea , think jeter got maybe a year left for a farewell tour at most , he finally is breaking down ...mo would be nice if he pulls a a petite and missed it .... But hey jeter or not 2 games out and a 3 game series with Tampa....
The Jeter thing has been nothing short of comical this year. Comes back, plays a few games, gone again. It's terrible really.

At this point the Yankees should just tank it. They will get blasted in the playoffs anyhow with that make shift pitvching staff and bunch of over the hill has been position players. I'd rather a team bow out respectfully then embarrass themselves.
The Yankees are holding onto the vets too long , I agree JitKenson but don't think they will EMBARASS at all if they get there ...... They are making the same mistake in baseball the islanders in the 80 s made in hockey .....
They won 4 straight cups and cost themselves 10 years of being competitive because they showed loyality to the aging vets who won them ...but if they cut bait , much like the Yankees , the fans would go nuts ..
The difference is the Yankees have the money to be loyal to jeter and reload around him ...the islanders did not .
Okay, embarrass was a bit strong. But who wants to watch Nunez and the rest of the nameless players in the playoffs? Boston vs. Detroit in the ALCS. Dodgers vs. Braves in the NLCS. Bring it on.

Well if you went back to two divisions and no wildcard, it would be Boston and Oakland. Detroit would be out because they'd be in the east and the best player in baseball would be at home watching. I think they should play around 140 games and have six teams make the playoffs. Give the top two seeds in each league byes. The more teams in the hunt the more interesting the game is.

I guess it comes down to your age and if your a purist or not .
Nothing wrong with your suggestion eespecially the new generations would like that .. But we both know that ain't happening ... Me I liked the old way , it made you follow closer , tne 54 dodgers or any of those giant teams in the 50 s that routinely placed second could well have won a World Series if there were wild cards I don't like it , it cheapens the season ... Look at Boston's first title . To me it never should have happened , who knows maybe the 78 sox would have ended the jinx if there was a wild card .. To me cheapens game , always will
To me it is nice to see more teams have a shot at it. The 2nd Wild Card has placed a premium on winning the division, so as to not play the one-game scramble game. The wild cards in general increase the number of teams (i.e. cities) still in the chase, thus it is overwhelmingly good for baseball. Without it, 95% of teams would be done before September 1st.... and that would be a tragedy to me.

Thats exactly why there should be more teams in the playoffs. Do you know how many playoffs Ted Williams played in? 1. Arguably 2nd greatest baseball player ever played in one playoff series. Don Mattingly played in one playoff series. Willie Mays only played in 3 playoff series in his prime. I dont think it cheapens the regular season it allows more markets to actually care about baseball into August and September. Thats what makes the NFL special. Were the Giants the best team in football when the beat the perfect Patriots. Fuck no but they got hot at the exact right moment and stunned the world. The Marlins won two WS and never won their division. Thats exciting.
