those would sound amazing. a tad expensive though. if they are still available on pay i may place a bid. Lot's of good stuff been cropping up on ebay at the moment. such as this
I see from one of the photos that the Maine Road DAT is a TV audio master, with reference to NICAM stereo on the sleeve. NICAM was a state-of-the-art system developed by the BBC for delivering digital stereo sound along with analogue TV broadcasts. It was close to CD quality.
I'm assuming that the reference to NICAM means that the tape contains a stereo mix prepared for broadcast using the NICAM system. There was probably another tape prepared for the simultaneous mono transmission.
This DAT should sound better than any recording of the NICAM TV broadcast, as NICAM (14-bit, 32kHz sampling frequency) wasn't quite full CD quality.
