A number of rare recordings from Oasis and The Stone Roses are to be auctioned off later this month, it has been revealed.
Omega Auctions in Stockport will have a number of demo recordings from both Manchester bands up for sale on February 21 and 22. Items set to go under the hammer include Oasis's first ever demo cassette, which was recorded in 1991 and 1992 and features handwritten tracklistings from Noel Gallagher. The tape, which features nine tracks, has an estimated price of £1,000 - £1,500.
Other Oasis items include a rare promo cassette of 'Definitely Maybe' (£200 – £300) and the original poster for the single 'Go Let It Out' signed by all the band members except Liam Gallagher (£800 – £1,000). There is also a Stone Roses demo featuring the unreleased track 'Sun Still Shines' and rough takes on '(Song For My) Sugar Spun Sister', 'Going Down' and 'Elephant Stone', which has an estimated price of £2,000 – £3,000, and a rare cassette tape of the band's 1989 self-titled LP (£200 – £300). For more information, see Omegaauctions.co.uk.
Now we know they were definitely laid down by the band.
It says Autumn 91 next to them the same as the Take Me Demo we have, must be from around the same time.
Sad, that tape will probably got for a lot more than the reserve. Wasn't there a tape on ebay a few years ago with just Alice Take Me and Reminisce with a ridiculously stupid asking price ?
EDIT (Good old Mr Monobrow to the rescue from his site) According to Paul Gallagher, Oasis recorded a short demo tape in 1992 just after Noel joined. The songs included on the tape were 'Alice', 'Take Me' and 'Reminisce'. A copy of this demo was put up for sale on eBay back in March 2003. However, seeing as the asking price was an astronomical £47,000 (for comparison, Noel's 1988 demo tape sold for around £6,000 in 1998), I doubt it was sold at that price, although the seller could have negotiated a cheaper price for it. You can read a 19th March 2003 article on the auction (which includes a picture of the tape) at the Manchester Online site here. And you can read another report from the 27th March 2003 edition of Messenger newspaper here.
Do you think we'll get to hear those tracks anytime soon?
Only if a generous benefactor like Joakim (who I'd like to imagine cancelling his holiday plans as we speak...) gets his hands on it (eg. the NGHFB unreleased demos and Let's All Make Believe) or the community pools together to make a bid (eg. Noel's 1989 demos and the Real People demo tape with Lock All The Doors amongst others).
Of course the greater possibility now, is that someone in the Oasis camp will have a copy of those and they could some day see a release on some Anthology years down the line.
