my comment wasn't a slam on the band it was more of shock that the biggest band in England got outsold by Daft Punk
i didnt take it as a slam, no problem mate ') arctic monkeys is a big band but not the biggest unfortunately. i mean coldplay, muse or some crap-pop stuff around sell a lot. its good to see AM again in the game with those sales and hit singles.last week they had 2 top 20 songs and another one in the top 75!
Coldplay are the biggest British Group since Led Zeppelin (as an Oasis fan thats hard to say but these guys are huge everywhere and they still do huge album sales) and Muse have build up their audience over many years like the Monkeys are doing. The Monkeys are doing the business with this album (number 1 in Holland, Australia and Ireland) top 10 in the U.S and I'm sure it break into a few top 10 charts around the world. They won back the audience with the new album.
Plenty of posters on the arctic monkeys forum i also use rate it as their favourite track on the whole album, not me i must say, i prefer Mad Sounds out the 2, but No.1 Party Anthem is anything but 'average'. Its a good song, a thing of beauty in fact.
So tell me mate, do the posters there also think that this is the best thing the Monkeys have ever done, a culmination of their entire career, or are they also disappointed that this is the having all the commercial and critical success that would have been more suited to their more inventive and unique albums?
I love Humbug but it's hugely over rated by Monkey fan's. It's the album many die hard Monkey fan's will tell you it's their crowning glory, the reason why I think that is cause it was badly reviewed and looked down upon by a commercial audience, it's like the red headed step child of the Monkey's canon. Yes it holds some of Turner's greatest lyrics and two of his greatest songs in Crying Lighting and Cornerstone but I'd chose SIAS and AM over it any day just a feel to those albums for me. I think AM is equal with their debut right now.

The American sales #'s are in
One rung behind Monáe are Arctic Monkeys, who claim their best sales week since 2007 and highest-charting album ever. The British group's new album, "AM," enters at No. 6 with 42,000. The start beats the No. 7 peak of 2007's "Favourite Worst Nightmare," which still owns the band's largest sales frame: 44,000 in its debut week.
Arctic Monkeys are currently enjoying their first Alternative airplay hit since 2006, as the “AM” single "Do I Wanna Know?" rises from 40-39 on the chart this week. The band's only other Alternative hit is its breakthrough single, "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor," which peaked at No. 7 in 2006.

I like AM (not as much as Whatever people or FWN though),I absolutely love Snap out of it and Do I wanna know? But I've to say I was a bit disappointed,I expected more
had high hopes, and it's not bad, but I don't really get this album. the two singles are great, plus RU Mine been around for a while. a couple others are alright. but for me there is WAY too much falsetto and listening to the whole it leaves me kind of, just ugh
can't believe AM gets more reception over here than BE

I agree with most of your sentiment until that last sentence.

Cause it pisses over BE I can't believe you put the piece of art that is AM up with BE. Shocking.

Arctic Monkeys reveal black and white video for latest single to be taken from 'AM'
Arctic Monkeys ride tractors in the black and white video for new single 'One For The Road'
The song, which features on the band's latest album 'AM', is accompanied by a new video shot by Focus Creeps, who also made the videos for 'R U Mine?' and 'Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?' The video starts with guitarist Jamie Cook riding a tractor slowly through an empty field before joining his bandmates for a performance of the song, surrounded by models and fireworks exploding in the background. 'One For The Road' will be released on December 9 and comes with new B-Side 'You're So Dark'.
