May have been too harsh on this at first, although I pretty much still stand by my point.
It's good, but I consider Arctic Monkeys one of the best big current bands, and this record doesn't really reflect that. It's all very listenable (like Vampire Weekend or something) but seldom brilliant. Lacking in the edge their other albums had.
Maybe my expectations were too high, from the singles I was really hoping that this would be their defining, brilliant album. I got the opposite, a career low for me.
I agree with most of your sentiment. I was expecting something else as well while most of the forum disagrees with us. I think it's better than Humbug just based on the first two singles alone but I'm not as big as fan of the ballads as some people especially when they are back to back.

Each to their own like, but i think your way off the mark. Career low my arse. EVERY track IS brilliant. Album is varied and class all the way through. And gets better everytime you hear it.
They just don't make bad records, and this album is more proof of that.
And they're not one of the best, they ARE THE BEST. FULL STOP.
No. 1 Party Anthem is a bit shit though innit?....
"You need to be yourself, you can't be no one else."

What!?
It's a good song to my ears at least. They all are.
"Who'll pick you up when you're spread too thin, when the walls you built are closing in around you? I found you...."

ehh it's alright but I wouldn't call it brilliant
Didn't like it at first, but the more i hear it the better it gets. If we're classing that as the weakest song on the album, then that just goes to show how great the album really is IMO

Yeah it is a great album, 'I Wanna Be Yours' is pretty meh as well and 'Mad Sounds' does nothing for me but it is a great album for sure

Every track is listenable. Brilliant means songs like Fluorescent Adolescent, Fake Tales of San Fransisco, Dance Little Liar. Most of the songs here aren't close to that level of quality. It's not a bad record - I agree they haven't made a single bad one.
Also, hell no are they the best. Arcade Fire, The National are in a league of their own. Call me when Arctic Monkeys deliver something as good as Boxer, The Suburbs.
They're pretty good, but they're the Blur of this generation. Don't get me wrong, I freaking love Blur, but they're far from being undoubtedly 'THE BEST. FULL STOP.'
Does it? That to me just looks like you've picked 3 tunes at random to be honest. Whats make them better than Dancefloor? when the sun goes down? mardy bum? certain romance? brianstorm? Teddy picker? Do me a favour? Crying Lightning? Secret door? Pretty visitors? Don't sit down? Suck it and see? etc etc (i could go on all day)
And for the record R U Mine and Do I wanna know are easily up there with any of those tracks mentioned.

I wanna be Yours is a thing of Beauty. Mad Sounds is awesome song.

As Phil kay would say "That Lad is on Crack" Sorry but No 1 party Anthem is one of Turner's greatest creations. John Lennon would have be proud of that.

Yeah they have it's called WPSITWIN, FWN, Humbug and AM. The National are hughly overrated. Depressive shit by wanky Americans. The Monkeys have life to them. Are you American by the way?

Sure he would. In My Life, Mind Games, Strawberry Fields, I'm Only Sleeping, A Day In The Life and Revolution are alright and everything but pale in comparison to: "Come on, come on, come on Come on, come on, come on Number one party anthem"
"You need to be yourself, you can't be no one else."
