V old listing of SOTSOG Super Audio CD on Amazon.com - query

Was just looking for some info on the Morning Glory SACD and stumbled across this listing for a release of Standing on the Shoudler of Giants on SACD.

Now, as far as I can tell this release was planned but never came out. Makes me wonder how far they got in producing it before it was cancelled. Does anyone else have any more info on this? Would have been interesting to hear that album in surround, if they'd continued the format established with Morning Glory of including a remix.

I wonder if someone out there bought it in the day? There's reviews for it. So maybe someone on here has it. I'm not sure, it would be awesome to hear.

It was definitely not released. I investigated this about 8 or 10 years ago.

Thanks for the info and for looking into this, schorman! Shame there weren't follow ups to the MG SACD. The first three albums, each with a surround mix, would've made a great box set... imagine the outro of Rock n Roll Star swirling around the soundstage   I guess if someone was up for it and had the right equipment and software this could be done with the Guitar Hero stems, for that track at least.

It would have been great. I do enjoy Morning Glory, mostly for some of the different mixing choices made. It seems to me like the kind of Sony-backed gimmick that Noel would have vetoed, but that is entirely conjecture. I really can't imagine Noel or Liam caring about surround mixes.

That's a fair point. I can't recall either Noel or Liam ever mentioning the SACD in any interviews and it seems even Owen Morris hadn't heard of it until a few years back, which surprised me. Would be nice to find out a bit more on the project's origins. I'm still looking...

Apparently Heathen Chemistry was also planned for SACD release back in the day, and in multi-channel to boot! I wonder if the mix was completed and is still sitting in the vaults somewhere, unheard.

you never know, SOTSOG, HC, DBTT and DOYS will most likely see some reissue of some kind even if only very basic. I doubt it but they could be released around then

That would be great if it happened. Would be great to hear some studio outtakes from that period, especially from the aborted recording session at Sawmills studio with Death in Vegas. I wonder what the tagline for the box set would be, following on from the 'Chasing the Sun' era?

Apparently the Heathen Chemistry SACD was planned for release in December 2003, before being scrapped. Very curious to find out more on that - like whether the multichannel mix was already in the can before the release was scrapped. Maybe the band didn't like the mix and pulled it for that reason?

I hope we get to hear these some day.  It's interesting that the tracklist doesn't show a multichannel version of "The Cage."
