Eric Cantona. He had that swagger and brought flair back to the English game. As kids in school we all ran around with our shirt collars up as Cantona did it.
Packie Bonner for his heroic penalty save in the 1990 World cup that got Ireland to the quarter finals.
Ray Houghton for sticking the ball in both the English and Italian net.
Zidane for his genius on the ball.
Marco Van Basten was just a class act and it's a shame he was destroyed by injuries.
Roy Keane for being a local lad and being a world class player.
Ryan Giggs for his being just a brilliant winger and a model pro.
I don't really admire anyone from the yesteryears since I didn't really see them play. Cristiano Ronaldo was my first football hero, absolute magician on the field. I was gutted when he left United for Real. I think some others for me would be Steven Gerrard, I've always admired him since day one, one of the best central midfielders in the game IMO, Robben and Sneijder, both also geniuses on the ball. I think the last World Cup was when I truly started following them,
Phillip Lahm is another who is such a brilliant player, when I watch him play sometimes I think, is this guy really a defender. He's that good while attacking. Then you'll see them dash back and make a blinder of a tackle. He's one of the best defenders around today and easily the best fullback in the world today.
Okay I know this will sound really stupid but special mention to Michael Carrick, he's my favourite player at United. I mean every pass he does is just precision. He's also got great ball control and vision. I think he's massively underrated, Its a real joy watching him play, He's also really good under pressure. Him and Scholes were a dream pair, god I miss the glory days!
"Who'll pick you up when you're spread too thin, when the walls you built are closing in around you? I found you...."
Part of the reason I really got into football was seeing Gazza at Italia 90, but I started supporting Man United in 88 and I always loved the way Bryan Robson played, after that it was always legends that came and went from Old Trafford, Cantona, Giggs, Keane, Ronaldo. Althogh I was too young to ever watch him in person, George Best (ignore what he did off the field, but on the pitch the guy was a god, in my opinion the best that ever lived)
Loved the way Zidane played, and in the early 90's I always watched the highlights of Italian football and loved watching Batistuta. The Brazilians that deserve a mention Ronaldo (the fat one) and Romaria for playing us off the park in our ground back in the day

Carrick is a class act. Ok, he's not Xavi or Iniesta but the way he breaks up play, plays the right balls etc is what makes him outstanding.
Fergie played a blinder when he signed him and when his career is over Carrick has a lot of medals to admire and polish.

Francesco Totti - My football hero, captain of the team that I support, he's a genius with the ball, he's done lots of goals and is a world class assistman as well, never seen anybody passing the ball like he does and he's a fantastic player even now that he's 37. And then he's been here for 20 years, he's played with shitty players, but he's always been loyal to us, which is great and unusual in these days
Vincent Kompany - The best defender in the world right now, even if he plays with Demichelis next to him
David Villa - I loved him and Torres when I was younger, I was quite obsessed with the whole Spain Euro 2008 team TBH
Yaya Tourè - Great midfielder, great talent, and he never fails in the big matches
Steven Gerrard - Not a big fan of Liverpool, but you just have to admire him
Leighton Baines - Don't know, is it the haircut maybe?
And, I haven't actually seen them play, but from watching old matches and videos I've learned to love Dennis Bergkamp and Georgi Kinkladze
