Hello! It's Good To Be Back! The Oasis Discography

Hello!

After a brief break (is 5 years considered brief?) I've rejoined the forum! Previously, I ran a site called Oasis Discography dedicated to all of the great Oasis artwork. That site has been dormant for years - but now it's back!....kind of.

For the past month or so, we’ve been busy getting the backend up and running for the new and improved discography site.

It’s officially ‘launched’ but only with Supersonic and the Columbia white label demo at the moment. You can check it out here. oasisdiscography.com. It’s a soft launch (at best) given the fact that there are only 2 releases up so far.

This time around, we've tried to write up original content for each release (see Supersonic for an example.) However, with so much content to write we’re going to release these slowly over the next several months, if not years. Of course, as new releases are complete I plan to share with everyone here as well as our Facebook and Twitter page.

All of the artwork has also been reworked to get as close as we can to ‘pristine’ copies of the original Brian Cannon 12” artwork.

Long story short, we've got a lot of work ahead of us and we need help! So, if anyone would like to help tell the story of a classic Oasis single or album please feel free to contact me through the forum or by email at [e-mail]

My plan was to have a few more releases ready before posting this, but hey, why wait?. Getting the forum's input is invaluable, so any feedback is welcomed and if anyone have any desire to contribute to the writing, again, just let me know. As you can tell from Supersonic, we’re trying to put a lot of time into all of these and really generate some interesting original content.

looks nice but text is too heavily reliant on davidjay's hard work imho.

also quoting that bit about Liam sounding like 'Sid Vicious' is pretty poor.

I did have a quick look the other night (thanks for the link) and the site looks great and I'm impressed by the quality of the scanned cover art. On closer reading I think some of the quotes on the Supersonic page are a bit lengthy and I'd appreciate if they could be trimmed. You are more than welcome to quote from my site of course, I just think those are a bit long in the context of a discography. Let me know if you need any help on this, I'd be happy to help out where possible. All the best for the site.

Just for clarification - the 'Sid Vicious' quote at the end of the piece - do you think it's just a bad quote to at the end or do you just not like the quote in general?

Totally understand davidjay - that's why I sent you the site when it was still in development but I know it's a lot to read through. Will email you about the quotes and we can get it sorted out.

accuracy of the original quote really - a likening to a vocal cross between Johnny Rotten's unique diction and style and that of John Lennon is pretty standard (and accurate imo) but to smear Liam with any reference to the talentless junky arsehole that was 'Sid' (My Way?) not only shows a lack of knowledge but is pretty insulting I reckon!

Ha! I can't believe a) that mistake slipped through initially and b) how I didn't catch it after your first post.

Of course, looking at the original source now - they got it wrong as well. I guess that's what happens when you're writing 3 of these at the same time - Shakermaker and Live Forever being the others I'm still working on. Those late night sessions lead to a couple of unchecked quotes. 

Well, I guess that's what the forum is for. Thanks for the help. It's been corrected now.

I love the idea and the site itself, but why mimic the Official Oasis site? Make it your own I'd say. Good work though.

The idea wasn't to mimic the Oasis site itself - but a black color scheme worked best with the artwork, which is the main focus. The basic design and grid structure were actually designed before the relaunch of inet - happy coincidence I guess.

As far as the logo in the corner, in early versions we had 'Discography' next to the logo but it seemed redundant given you're at oasisdiscography.com. It's a debate that continues today.

Not sure if this is the best place for this - or if it should be it's own topic but the new oasisinet.com is actually using a lot of our old scans and artwork!

I know, how would I know it’s my artwork and one of the millions of copies floating around online - or even an original? Take a look at the artwork for D’You Know What I Mean? on inet (http://www.oasisinet.com/#!/music/album/dyou-know-mean). That’s one of our old scans. If you also look at the attached pictures of my copy you’ll notice the scratches in the foil logo between the ‘a’ and ’s’ and above the ’s’ are identical! Yep, a very small thing - but it was kinda cool to know that a copy of D’You Know What I Mean bought in Wichita, Kansas in 1997 would end up on the official website 17 years later!

Although to be honest, you'd think they would be able to source those images from the originals!
