Not the actual VHS, but the master gig itself is widely circulated if thats what you're after
A new trasnfer would be great. It appears that the audio was captures in only one channel (you can barely hear Gem´s guitar).
It's not a transfer error, It's just the way the audio was recorded at the gig onto the tape. The mixing was off. The DTV broadcast is exactly the same.

Actually, I was checking the DTV version, and it is the same... A real shame, since the gig is great... It wasn´t that common that Gem´s guitar was so low. It used to happen with Bonehead´s guitar, especially during the BHN era...

Yeah, Boneheads guitar was always so low in the mix during the BHN tour. The Japan gig is one of the best from that tour, Would look great in HD.
I personally hate the gig, as youve all said the sound it pants, and imo the picture is too, not quality wise, but theres no colour in it at all. Very grey scale

I may be wrong, but the dvd sourced from the master vhs looks like it was originally recorded in 16:9 widescreen, but presented in 4:3 full screen, and then cropped to 16:9 widescreen by the person who transfered it, and that's why the quality of the video is not that good. Anyway, the lack of colours is a big downside, along with the audio mix.
people transfer tapes not knowing how to do it to keep the best quality.
all VHS tapes should be transferred using a time base corrector.
Regards to the Japan gig i'm shocked they did not get the sound correct or at least fix it mid performance usually Japan have the best mixes not sure what happened surprised it wasn't picked up during sound check
I've got the actual promo VHS tape. The original tape is letterbox and in NTSC format and looks a lot better than the DVD but the colours are still pale and almost greyscale.
And the sound still has problems where you can't hear Gem's guitar.
Birchy for peace of mind run this into a stereo vcr and flick the sound from left channel to right channel be interesting what you get.
Another thing i would do is play the MTV DTV and VHS copy side by side and then match up the picture as close as you can to get the best results.
I believe 4 shows were Pro shot from that Japan Tour.
Was there a radio broadcast of this gig ? sometimes it pays to overdubb that to make your soundtrack
I am pretty sure the Broadcast gear they used was 16/9 the master copy would look nice. That's why it's important Oasis did there own Multi Track recording of the show we haven't really heard much from the management when this process happen.

I really wish a better version comes up someday, maybe from a collector in japan, but I highly doubt that Oasis´s management do something, and i they do, probably they will ruined it somehow (just remember the video section in their official webpage a few years ago, with crappy youtube videos, asking the fans to share what they had, instead of opening the vault and release something in good quality themselves), since they have proved to be very inaccurate with the official stuff. I just think about the recording released from the Roskilde Festival 1995, and its horrible sound.
Regarding overdubbing some shows, I´ve done it with some old Pearl Jam stuff: great 8mm master videos with horrible sound, no other audio source available. Solution? Overdubbing with audio from another show. Great result!!!
