With the Terminator: Genesis ball due to start rolling next month, all eyes are on Arnie.
The former governor of California was interviewed by MTV recently, and he had a lot of juicy tidbits about Terminator: Genesis to hand out. In his slightly eccentric English, Schwarzenegger revealed that
Terminator' deals a lot with time travel, so there will be a younger T-800, and then [there is] what that model does later on when it gets reprogrammed, and who gets a hold of him. So it will be all kinds of interesting twists in the movie"
Schwarzenegger also went on to cover the perils of robot ageing by explaining how the movie will compensate for him looking three decades older than he did in the original. He told MTV that;
The way that the character is written, it's a machine underneath. It's this metal skeleton. But above that is human flesh. And the Terminator's flesh ages, just like any other human being's flesh. Maybe not as fast. But it definitely ages"
The first in a stand-alone trilogy, Terminator 5 will also star Jason Clarke, Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney and J.K. Simmons. It is set to be directed by Alan Taylor of Thor: The Dark World fame.
Terminator: Genesis will hit theaters on July 1st 2015.
I'm a huge fan of the first two Terminator films (and the soundtracks by Brad Fiedel too!) and hope that this new entry in the series lives up to them. I have to admit I found T3 a weaker retread of themes better dealt with in T2, and thought Salvation was very well made on a technical level, but felt soulless. Plenty of spectacle but few likeable characters. The biggest cheer in the cinema was for the CGI double of Arnold as the T-800 at the end!

I only went to see salvation for his cameo (if you can call it that) but otherwise it was pretty rubbish, it didn't follow the "future" displayed in the first two films, wasn't dark enough.
I like the idea of the aging thing, it makes sense, looks like they will CGI arnold to some degree to look younger for the earlier T-800 from the first film.
I hope its rated 18 (or R in america), die hard suffered because of the age rating reduction.

Yes, agreed... hopefully all the edges aren't smoothed off, like in the recent Robocop film. On one level, it's hard to imagine them doing, say, a modern equivalent to the (fairly gruesome in its day) self-surgery scene from T1. Will be interesting to see how they pitch it. T3 seemed more family friendly and warmer in tone, apart from its bold & bleak ending. Salvation was a lot darker than T3, albeit with less graphic depictions of violence than in the first two movies.
I'm also very interested to see how they depict an older version of the T-800 too. From what I gather so far, it seems that, in part, they will directly incorporate the fact that Arnold looks older into the storyline. I have to say I also missed Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor in the more recent films. She was central to the success of those films too, I think. A fascinating character. I'm not sure if Hamilton is interested in doing any Terminator films again, without James Cameron involved. I did read in the Terminator Vault book (great read btw) that she was approached to appear in T3, but declined when she learnt that Cameron wasn't involved.

From what I am reading they will have arnold as the terminator (young) then he will complete his mission and shut down for 20 years, which explains why the living tissue has aged.
Arnold says that he'll play the Terminator at three different ages, 25 years old (terminator 1?), 35 years old (terminator 2?) and 55 years old in 2029.
He says that the director wants him to be in the same shape he was in 1984.
He also mentions that the skin of the Terminator ages like normal human skin, but that everything underneath, the endoskeleton etc. stay exactly the same.
Filming starts April 28th.
looks they are possibly going to do a revisit type thing over the first two films and then in the future. would be great to see Linda Hamilton and Michael beihn in it again.
I read a while back that there might be a subplot as him a human protector from the 50s, from which skynet used his likeness so his age might be incorporated in with that.
Thanks for all the info, UniversalGleam. Sounds promising. I look forward to seeing how it all works in the finished film.
One other rumour I heard was that Cameron is having Terminator 2 restored from scratch, and maybe even converted to 3D for theatrical reissue. Personally, I'd just like a top-quality restoration of the theatrical cut, as The Terminator got for its latest blu-ray edition. Would be good if they could include the original CDS cinema sound mix too. I'm not so fussed about a 3D version, unless of course they can get the rights to put T2: 3D - Battle Across Time (the theme park film) on there as an extra somehow. Probably doesn't hold together as a film, but I have fond memories of seeing that on holiday in the 90s
The original series is obviously a classic, love those films. Terminator: Salvation IMO was a very good film, I think they captured that war ridden world very nicely, I really enjoyed that film. Also Arnold's "cameo" was also a nice surprise. I know whatever they come out with I'll be one of the first in line at the theatre but I really don't know how Arnold is going to pull this off. He seems very stiff if you know what I mean. In the end they're milking the franchise by making this film but I really hope they do a good job with it. This has the potential of becoming the Phantom Menace of the Terminator series.
Btw I haven't seen The Sarah Connor Chronicles, is it worth checking out?
"Who'll pick you up when you're spread too thin, when the walls you built are closing in around you? I found you...."

yea the TV series is very good imo, theres a few areas that are abit slow but its very good overall, shame it got cancelled just as it was getting interesting. I think its better than the 3rd film or salvation.

Terminator 1 & 2 are 2 of my all time favourite action films. 3 and salvation.... the less said about them the better. There is no need for a 5th film. Talk about beating a dead horse..
I really must check out the The Sarah Connor Chronicles, keep meaning to download it.
Terminator: Genesis will rewind to the first two films in the series and will move back and forth in the plot with the help of time travel scenes.
James Cameron, admitted that he had been asked to be involved in the film by Megan Ellison. Cameron later had held several meetings with David Ellison, where they discussed Arnold Schwarzenegger's role and how to stay true to the orginal T-800 character
