obv it's not for sale, but surely part of the point is for it to make a bit of a statement about this forum, and i think it would be good to make it as accessible as possible to a whole range of levels of Oasis fans.
just like the beatles there will be a hell of a lot of Oasis listeners out there who won't be aware of a lot of stuff, so it doesn't mean it should only be made up of esoteric items. I had most of the beatles anthology tracks in one form or another, but it was still great to get it all in one place.
This idea could pull together a whole load of resources that, if someone stumbles across it or finds out about it, can lead them down a deeper path to 'die hardness'
I reckon there's a good chance of getting a lot of publicity around something like this too if it comes up to a good standard, ie mags like Q and lots of online resources would go for it, which would be great for the forum and for Oasis fans of all types. i don't see the point in doing it if it's for a niche 'market' of die hards to be honest.
My point was more that we need not try to cram everything under the sun on this thing. For example, we don't need 5 versions of Columbia, when each only has minor differences in them. Also, after the initial "Pre-Oasis/Early Oasis" disc, most of the stuff will be much more known (i.e. demos, or rare live stuff maybe) to people, b/c Oasis was pretty good about getting things out there from time to time.
Other than that, I totlaly agree with your root point though. A solid effort could be a great thing for the Oasis community as a whole, and the Forum as well.
After thinking about this for a few days, here's what I've come up with. I've tried to make gear it towards people who generally like Oasis, are mostly familiar with their song catalogue and sound. Basically, your standard Oasis concert attendee. It's designed as a 'guide to accompany your descent into Oasis obsession'.

One suggestion. Change Acquiesce to Rock in Rio and add Whatever from Barrowlands. That was one of their best performances, to be sure!

Great stuff. Only suggestion that came to mind was that it would be great to include 2-3 tracks off the Safety Masters on the 1994 disc. Maybe the early mixes of Live Forever, Slide Away or Up in the Sky? I think it makes perfect sense to kick off disc 2 with the White Label demo of Columbia as that's the first thing a wider audience will have heard from the band, and it would've been on Radio 1 around that time (Dec '93 - Jan '94). If it's decided to use some tracks off the safety masters they could be slotted in your chronological tracklist above between February-early March '94 if we go by the recording date, or March 94 if we go by the date on which those mixes were completed.
I appreciate all the suggestions It's going to be extremely hard to pare it down further. And davidjay, I actually completely forgot about the Safety Masters.
As for only live tracks, that's just what I was looking at yesterday. Demos and all are great too but they'll gradually get worked in.
This is going to be an enormous mother f'er. I can't begin to imagine how the Beatles Anthology was narrowed into 6 discs!
All im seeing is live tracks. What about demos/radio sessions/ interview snippits.
Exactly. I thought the idea was to use a couple of DVD's to feature quality live performances, and to use the CD's to feature demos/rare re-mixes/etc. ?
Music and video, great... but what about, I donĀ“t how, but a kind of "pics album" of each era, but only photos took by us, the fans, in concerts or wherever. I think that will add a "unique" touch to the project.
It would be interesting to compile something for this. Not sure the best way to go about getting pics from everyone, from all eras of the band though. Mayeb set up a dropbox or something that everyone can just drop their stuff into? Then someone can put together a booklet, or something. Maybe limit it to pics that include at minimum one member of Oasis in it live or otherwise. No need to have pics of random people we don't know who happen to be at a gig or something.
then again, seeing people Oasis shrines, or body art, or shirts, or posters, whatever sould be interesting. Not sure.

come on then, as the man said, it would take a weekend to actually compile this - lets get on with it! start at the beginining, all good things come in threes/trilogies, so set the 3 eras, two cds per collection, 150 minutes of music, get the first one agreed and done.
anth 1 the original line up cd1 pre creation stuff, cd 2 def maybe recordings/demoes/radio sessions/tv appearances/ couple of live classics, right up to final tony recordings...
