come on then, as the man said, it would take a weekend to actually compile this - lets get on with it! start at the beginining, all good things come in threes/trilogies, so set the 3 eras, two cds per collection, 150 minutes of music, get the first one agreed and done.
anth 1 the original line up cd1 pre creation stuff, cd 2 def maybe recordings/demoes/radio sessions/tv appearances/ couple of live classics, right up to final tony recordings...
Yes I agree. I think a good ground work has been laid down for the entire project, why not start compiling the songs now and get started with it.

the project has been started. JitKenson and myself have been talking and we agree it's best if we just do it and then reveal the finished product once its done. this way it can get underway a lot quicker, no arguments about the tracklisting/how it should be set out etc... so sit back and relax and you all will be thrilled with the finished anthology.

sorry this is taking so long guys but it turns out that this harder then i thought. not being able to include officially released material makes this real hard. i don't want this project to turn into a "best of live compilation" i'm trying to stick to rarities/demos/alternate versions but pretty much everything has been officially released. its doing my head in.

sharing relieves pressure
safety masters, broadwalk tapes, noel demo, surely the first set has a lot of material in forms that are unreleased which aren't just straight live or radio session versions?
does 'released' in this instance include giveaway cover mounts and promos or just 'for sale' catalogued items?

The early stuff is done that was the easy bit. Its everything else. Officially released is anything released under a record label. It looks like we are stuck witj just putting live recordings on this thing apart from some sotsog demos hc early mixes and dbtt sessions everything else will have to be made up of live tracks. Quality also is a factor.

good to hear early one is done - staggered 'releases' for each era or are you going for everything in one go? one at a time would be best I reckon... might give it time for more material to come to light!
Maybe a part by part release wouldn't be such a bad idea. Just keep everyone occupied with some material till the next part is ready. Up to you in the end mate but just something to think about.

the way i am looking at it at the moment is, everything that is going to be on this anthology is available on this forum to download anyway. i could just post the tracklisting and everyone could just download the bootlegs and create their own cds. seems a bit redundant uploading stuff that has already been uploaded. I mean everyone has heard all these tracks before, its nothing new. i don't know maybe this project might be better off in someone elses hands who has a lot more free time than me.
The Beatles Anthology worked great because it was mainly a mix of studio outtakes (which we have none of oasis), Demos (we have a few), live tracks (the bulk of oasis tracks) and alternate mixes. if oasis never released any of their demos it would make this project a whole lot easier.
Another problem i am facing is noel to liam on vocals ratio. i had a track listing sorted for morning glory and be here now but had to scrap it due to too many songs having noel on lead vocals. and these versions were special because it was the only time he had ever sung them eg, champagne supernova, round are way, girl in the dirty shirt, my big mouth... on a track listing of 15 songs noel was singing around 10 of them as i also had to include the normal songs he sings lead on. very frustrating.

but isn't the idea for it to appeal to people far outside of this forum? of course most of us will have the stuff already, or know that we can access it here or elsewhere.
I thought the idea in part was to act as a primer for the vast majority of Oasis/Gallagher fans who have probably never even looked at a forum but do read NME/Q/Mojo/blogs whatever... I haven't seen any publicity for the 'safety masters' alone, which, let's face it, would probably make a decent proper release that would appeal to many if edited down correctly...

only 6 tracks from the safety masters have made it onto the anthology.
